Career Related Services at CAPS

Career Related Services at CAPS

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) provides career related services and resources to currently registered Penn students to support your academic and career success as well as mental wellness.

1. Career Counseling

CAPS offers brief psychologically-informed culturally-sensitive career counseling to help Penn students gain greater self-awareness or clarity about your academic and career interests and goals, as well as a better understanding of factors (e.g.,personality, values, expectations) that affect your choices and decisions. CAPS career counselors are also therapists. They can help you better manage career related stress and maintain emotional wellbeing.

2. Career Assessments

There are career related assessments that students can take to better understand your interests, skills, values, and strengths as you engage in the process of career exploration and development. CAPS offers to students:

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI): provides a foundation for understanding individual differences and preferences, and applying that understanding to the ways people think, communicate, and interact. This tool identifies your basic “personality type” which can be related to future career choices & working environments.

Strong Interest Inventory (SII): reflects your interests in relation to occupations, compares your interests to the interests of people happily employed in a wide variety of occupations, and identifies job titles related to your interests. Understanding your Strong Profile can help you identify a career focus and begin your career planning and exploration process. This assessment is ideal for undergraduate and Master’s students.

Note: Career Services also offers MBTI and SII in addition to CliftonStrengths.

 ● CliftonStrengths: tracks your top five talent themes as a means toward helping you to discover your strengths. The instrument will also provide guidance on how to apply your strengths to your academics, career planning and leadership development.
