International students are a significant part of the Penn community. CAPS recognizes that international students have unique needs, concerns, and strengths, while sharing common interests and goals with their American counterparts. Among the range of services that we provide for all Penn students, CAPS offers tailored support and programming to international students.

Penngagement International Experience Series – PIE Series

Penngagement International Experience (PIE) Series is a year-round program tailored for international students and those who have international experiences or are interested in international students’ experiences. It aims to enhance students’ well-being and success in the U.S. It provides students a welcoming and supportive platform where they can:

  • Become familiar with campus resources
  • Interact and develop a relationship with fellow students, staff, and administrators
  • Learn important information and develop useful skills leading to success
  • Experience a sense of belonging and community.

Campus Specialized Programs

Forerunner (China, India, Africa)
Forerunner prepares newly accepted Penn international students for their Penn academic and extracurricular journey. Participants learn from Penn officials about how to be successful in and out of the classroom and the campus resources that will help them along the way. Current Penn students provide their insight into their Penn experience and share different ways to get involved in student organizations. Forerunner allows for new students to make connections not only with each other, but also with current students, Penn staff, and alumni.

Intercultural Leadership Program (ILP)
ILP has been designed to foster a community of intercultural leaders who are ready to take on issues they are passionate about, learn more about themselves and communities different from their own, as well as making a lasting impact at Penn and beyond. A weekend retreat will take participants through a series of activities, simulations, and discussions that allow for deeper understanding of themselves and how they exist in relation to others.

Global Lens Series
The Global Lens focuses on increasing connections and crossing cultural divides within the Penn community. There are over 130 different countries that students represent at Penn, along with a wealth of cultural heritage. Global Lens Series aims to celebrate our diversity, create an inclusive community, and showcase the beauty of the world at Penn.

Academic Plus Workshop Series
The Academics Plus workshops are designed to help students from diverse linguistic backgrounds transition to a new academic culture and learning environment by providing academic reading, writing, and study strategies, and introducing helpful campus resources. The hour and a half workshops are an ideal space to discuss academic, language, and cultural topics.
